Today is going to be a loooong day. We travel from Whitehorse to Dawson City.
We said goodbye to one of the couples - Margaret & Gavin who were heading back to Vancouver.
Downtown Whitehorse.
Amongst the beautiful scenery are once again the 'snack' stops.
The three of us shared the biggest cinnamon bun ever!
We made a stop at the Montague Roadhouse - the only one of the original three still standing but not being used. This was used in the late 1920's to 1940's as a stop between Whitehorse and Dawson City.
We stopped for lunch at a campsite near the Tantalus Butte which is an old coal mine that is unable to be used as it is on fire and can't be put out. A volunteer at the stop gave us a talk about it.
The Yukon River - it was flowing very fast.
A squirrel posed for us.
Another lookout was the Five Fingers Rapids on the Yukon River where the paddle wheelers had to negotiate through.
Moose Creek was our final 'snack' stop.
The Yukon River is truly one of the best.
As we arrived in Dawson City we went up 'The Dome' first, a beautiful lookout over the city. It was a nice clear evening and rather than risk the normal morning fog it was decided to go up this evening.
A popular place for hang-gliders to take off from.
The mining area leading into Dawson.
Dawson City from a distance with the Yukon, running beside it.
Lots of the buildings have the original facade looks.
The Keno paddle steamer that is not in operation.
