Today we had a new coach driver, Chris (very nice guy & a great driver), and tour guide, Claudia (a bubbly German lady with a great sense of humour) join us all, who will be with us for the next 10 days. They both live "off the grid" & "dry" in Tok (Chris) & Talkeetna (Claudia)
We drove from Haines to Whitehorse.
Today it is cloudy.
As there was a bike race that had started earlier that
morning we made a slight detour to Chilkoot Lake
lookout to give the bike riders a head start.
Just up from where a whole bunch of guys were fishing we saw a brown bear.
View before getting back into Haines.
Today we once again crossed the border from US into
Canada. So, change the clock back an hour, sort the
money so you have the correct one.
We had a stop at the Haines Highway Summit.
The flowers in front of Steven are called Fireweed. It
has a lot of "Santa" type growth that blows off and
creates even more weeds.
Glaciers we saw. John is fascinated by them :P
This black bear was very accommodating and ran across the road ahead of the coach so we were able to slow down and take photos as we passed and before he disappeared.
You can see the shaping the glaciers do in the
mountains.
As always, there is a stop for a 'snack' where there
is nearly always a gift shop. Oh, and the restrooms
of course!
Our next stop was the Heritage Centre at Haines
Junction.
The dark clouds came rolling in but no rain.
As we came into town we drove around to orientate
ourselves and saw the old paddle steamer now out of
use.
Our hotel - Best Western's chain - 'The Gold Rush
Inn".
