Time to leave Wrangell today. For a small town that
on first impressions has a museum and that is all,
we have had some fantastic outings that people would never experience unless they had been here.
Back on the ferry for our next trip to Haines via
Skagway.
There was fog this morning so better views had to
wait for the fog to lift.
The Wrangell Narrows - ~57 course changes to go through this area - at a slow speed.
We had a short stop at Petersburg to let off people
and pick others up - no disembarking here. Our ferry had to wait for the one at the dock to leave first.
As we left we could see the seals sunning themselves
up on the buoys.
Today we were blessed with seeing lots of whales.
You can see three whale spouts here and sometimes we saw five together.
More beautiful scenery along the way. A lighthouse.
Snow-capped mountains.
We arrived at Juneau around 6pm and as there were no taxis available for a while and a risk of not getting
back to the ferry in the short time we had we decided not to
go into the city but went for a walk instead.
Steven and Dawn went the road waterside way hoping that it would meet up with the main road John went. The road ended but luckily there were stairs down to the beach.
John then met us coming in the opposite direction.
Beautiful views from down at the beachside - it was
high tide so there was no real beach to speak of.
Then we all walked back again to the ferry dock.
Ferry in this picture. We left again and spent the
night in a cabin on the ferry. Bunk bed with small
separate bathroom. Notice I didn't say slept
because it was a bit hard to do so. We arrived in
Haines at 1.30am and Steven was threatening to get
off and wait there rather than have to go to Skagway
and then back again by ferry but he slept through.
We didn't get off at Haines but continued with the
ferry to Skagway.
